What I want to be when I grow up

Ray van Hilst Avatar

It's only taken me 36 years. You'd think I would have figured it out by now. But it came to me yesterday afternoon.

Bill Evans. (Oh, you thought I was talking about work.)

No, I'm still searching for my musical destination. I was playing something from a book of Bill Evans piano solos yesterday and I was pulled into the harmonics and patterns. I've always been a chord guy at heart. Never had the dexterity of McCoy Tyner or Art Tatum, don't have the innate rhtym of Monk or the out there thoughts of Chick Corea.

And I guess I'll start a journey to keep growing up. Check back. I may get there or not. But it'll be fun trying.
